Type Locality and Naming

Along the Kuruksay stream, northern foothills of the N. Nuratau range. I.A. Pyanova, V.S. Korsakov in 1976 (481, p. 15).

Synonym: Kuruksayskaya Formation (Olistostrome), Курукская св. (ополистострома)


Lithology and Thickness

Gray-green and dark-green claystone (argillites) and slates, including fragments and boulders of limestones with late Cambrian trilobites, dolomites with microphytolites of the late Proterozoic Bogambir Fm, greenish-gray sandstones and variegated slates of the Ilonchisay Fm, and metadiabasites and spilites of the Shavaz Fm.

Lower contact

Regional extent

Age 

Based on the presence of fragments of the Shavaz Fm and considering the late Moscovian time of formation of olistostromal thicknesses in the Kyzylkum-Nurata region, the Kuruk olistostrome is attributed to the upper substage of the Moscovian stage of the middle Carboniferous.
